Live N Learn Presenting at Adelaide Housing Forum
Live N Learn will participate in the upcoming Adelaide Youth Homeless Forum in April 2008.
The forum is sponsored by the Youth Affairs Council of SA, Homelessness SA, Shelter SA and SACOSS, and will examine statistics and trends in youth homelessness and observations, problems and challenges with SAAP. Speakers include representatives from the South Australian Government through the Department of Families and Communities and the National Youth coalition for Housing (NYCH).
A significant discussion component includes the examination of alternate accommodation models, including the foyer concept. Live N Learn General Manager Aaron Maher has accepted an invitation to present an overview of the Live N Learn Campus at Miller, located in South Western Sydney. Miller Campus commenced operations in 2003 and is Australia’s first successful adaptation of the United Kingdom Foyer model. The facility accommodates up to 29 young people aged 16-25 years who are at risk of homelessness.
The Live N Learn Miller Campus was also a focus of attention at a previous homlessness and accommodation related conference in Adelaide in 2005, hosted by St Johns Youth Services. It also examined the foyer concept and was attended by UK Foyer Federation Board Member (and Aberdeen Foyer CEO) Ken Milroy.
