Live N Learn Foundation sets goals for 2010

The Live N Learn Foundation Board has set mid and longer-term business objectives, which aim to build upon its record of successful program development.

Objective 1.        Responsible program delivery – Live N Learn Foundation remains committed to overseeing and operating highly successful programs. Responsible program delivery requires the provision of useful and desirable program models, practical client-focused results (building to personal independence through employment, education or independent accommodation), cost-effective outcomes for funders, a commitment to partnering and collaboration and accurate financial management.

Objective 2.        Improved access to mentoring services – Live N Learn Foundation has dedicated five years to the development and implementation of a youth employment mentoring program, referred to as Break Through mentoring. The program has proven to be a successful way of engaging business people in the issue of youth unemployment and returns high employment and training outcomes.

With a renewal of its commitment in Macarthur, FaCHSIA has ensured the youth employment mentoring service will continue into 2010.

Live N Learn Foundation is committed to various actions indented to ensure greater scale of mentoring activity.

Objective 3.        Capitalising on a successful Campus model – Live N Learn Foundation was established with a dedication to help youth aged 16 to 25 who are at risk of homelessness achieve a successful transition into independent living. Our mission reflects the vision of the UK Foyer Federation and recognises the importance of stable accommodation, education and employment. We share a view that a holistic response to meeting transitional support needs is required.

Live N Learn Foundation established the first Australian adaptation of the UK Foyer model and operated the service until May 2008. Our experiences provided great insights into the challenges of adapting such a diverse model to the Australian context and we are proud of the leadership and ambassadorial role we played in championing the Foyer model.

Having developed a sound documented program and operating framework and proven the model as a successful solution to supporting transition, the Live N Learn Foundation is now dedicated to ensuring the valuable knowledge gained is offered and applied in a climate of greater interest in Foyer models.

Live N Learn remains committed to its original mission and purpose. We are encouraged by the level of interest the Foyer model is generating but understand, better than most, the challenges of successfully interpreting Foyer to meet an Australian context and then address specific community needs.

The Live N Learn Campus and Break Through programs have proven effective solutions to assist youth and since many young people continue to face multiple barriers, we remain determined to ensure widest possible use of the tools we have developed. The objectives we have identified require a significant effort and support and the Board is dedicated to building our capacity to be in a position to realise them.
